说反了吧,最大的市场显然照相和显微镜技术,其次是endoscopy,都是超过几十亿的
市场。再其次好像是OCT和光谱学分析,别的真是想不出什么有市场的应用了,什么荧
光,超显微,tumor guidance,都是浮云,至少现在还是浮云,日后就算不是浮云,也
先要在学术界混上10年才能达到应用的阶段。

I assume the original post was discussing clinical/preclinical application (
in vivo optical imaging). And we are talking about 前景. I would say image-
guided-surgery is a emerging field with great potential. I am not surprised
few people are familiar with this. Not many people even heard about this. If
you talk about basic research, current technology, no doubt microscopy is a
big area.

And I strongly disagree the claim that 荧光是浮云. People may not be aware
that fluorescence are so widely used in biological research. Even Roger
Tsien's Nobel prize (for FP) is only part of the story. Many other
fluorophores (such as organic dyes, QDs etc) are used in the labs. Other
than microscopy, other applications include sequencing, real time PCR,
Western, FACS, FRET, to name a few. It is safe to say that very few
biological labs can run without fluorescence technology.

tumor or other diseases is not that attactive. However, image-guided-surgery
is surface imaging. The advantage is that it can help the surgeon to
determine the tumor margin and/or identify small tumor tissues that are not
so obvious under naked eyes. This application does not limit to breast
cancer. The key here is to use cancer-specific targeting agents. It sounds
simple, but may have huge impact if it can improve the survive rate by
decreasing the recurrence. Think about this, what's the effectiveness of the
famous billion-dollar anti-tumor drugs cetuximab and trastuzumab?

know when they started in this field. In my view, image-guided-surgery is
more about application than research. So I really do not know how Roger
Tsien, a leader of innovation/breakthrough, will play a major role here.

tsien 04年最开始做了。毫无疑问he is leader in this field.
