Samba Enabled

NAS server

I remember DDWRT has a 'NAS' tab under 'Service', not sure if that can
resolve your problem since I haven't used it before.
Have you tried NFS share yet? I think NFS is better in your case since both
DDWRT and Himedia are Linux based, and I believe no id and password required
to access NFS share if you authenticate local ip addresses.

yep, this is where you turn on samba service in DDWRT.
problem is himedia doesn't allow you to manually specify a samba server.
something is missing, either himedia only looks up DHCP client in the
network and it or maybe the DDWRT samba server doesn't expose its own
workgroup/server name for others to see.
I don't want to customize DDWRT too much, do I need to install a package to
support NFS from DDWRT?

both
required

I don't think DDWRT has NFS share integrated, you probably need to install
Optware to share files via NFS. I've done it recently, and I can guarantee
it's not complicated at all. Just google "Optware, the right way" and decide
for yourself.
