Our baby boy is over a month old. We just got a middle name (Pin-Yin of the
Chinese character name) for him, however to officially change the name by
adding a middle name we would have to change it everywhere: birth record,
social security card, hospital of his birth, and so on. We then came up with
the question --
Is a middle name really necessary on any formal/official occasions, such as
passport, visa to China, tax return form, schooling, etc? Or is it just
something that can be used to distinguish the baby from others or for people
to call it for fun or for simplicity (like a nickname) on any casual
occasions?
Thanks!
