Seems someone brought up this hot topic again. Let me share what I have seen
and my two cents.
Limited to Bay Area, EE firmware/analog circuit design/application
PhDs from top schools or top advisors or top labs or unique experience.
2007 to 2008, there seems a salary bubble.
Fresh PhD base salary could reach 95K to 110K. Total compensation reached
110K to 130K the 1st year. Total compensation might be reduced in the 2nd
yr due less the sign in bonus.
2009 to 2010, the salary or total compensation has reduced. Fresh PhD
base salary reduced to 80K to 90K range, which was the 2006 level. Total
compensation reduces more due to the stock price sliding.
For NOT popular majors in EE, such as process, testing, product eng.,
devices even digital IC, the salary kind of remains flat from 2006 to 2010.
The base salary was from 75K to 85K with much less total compesation (80K to
100K).
No need to be hijacked by those BSOs. Your boss does not like employee who
has unrealistic expectation.
