The HHMI Janelia farm research campus has multiple openings for Ph.D. students, postdocs and research scientists in biomedical imaging technology. The positions will support the investigation and development of novel imaging technologies that enable high resolution molecular imaging in light scattering media (such as deep tissues). Experimental skills in optical imaging, laser spectroscopy, and optoelectronic are required. HHMI offers two programs leading to the Ph.D. based at its Janelia Farm Research Campus, in partnership with the universities of Cambridge and Chicago. These accelerated programs are designed for a small number of well- prepared, highly committed, and gifted students. We offer opportunities for interdisciplinary research in an intense environment. Most students spend one year at their chosen partner institution followed by three years of research work at Janelia Farm. If you join the program you will have two mentors: one at Janelia Farm and one at the partner university. You will fulfill all the academic requirements of your chosen partner university and your Ph.D. thesis will be examined there. Information about our research campus can be found from the link below. http://www.hhmi.org/janelia/discover_janelia/index2.html The positions are available immediately. Please send CV with publication list and description of research background and experiment skills to Dr. Meng Cui (cuim (at) janelia.hhmi.org).

If Twitter is replacing Ruby with Scala, Rails is just losing grounds. If anything can replace Java, it's going to be a JVM language. The high scalability and huge Java libraries are too much to miss out. Too bad Ruby isn't one of them.

Totally. I still consider Ruby/Rails not a serious-enough programming language. Granted, a lot of start-ups use RoR, but, when it comes to scalability and performance, Java is the clear winner.
