problem is that TDI engine can reach its peak torque between 1900rpm and 2500 rpm. This range is your car normal driving range. gasonline engine reaches its peak around 5000rpm or above, who will kick your engine in that rpm for normal driving? Torque== acceleration in normal driving condition, don't tell me about the racing condition with rpm of 7000. the true is that TDI engine is only $1300 more expensive than the gasoline engine. I got this money back in the first year due to the tax return. You can't compare between price of TDI and S model. All TDI are applied based on SE model.
1. other brands still have some differences, it is just for mazda 2. so you need a bigger engine for the 5-door, hehe ... why don't you go to 4-door and save on money and oil ?

How about the oil-burning engine of VW? Are you going to blame that to their inferior plastic too?
nope without taking into consideration gearbox ratio and final drive ratio, engine torque alone means nothing.
