Issue
You're unable to add or edit page numbers on PDF pages using the Number Pages
command in Adobe Acrobat 5.x.
Solutions
Do one of the following:
Solution 1
Add the page numbers to the original document, and then re-create the PDF
file.
Solution 2
Use the touchup text tool to add or edit page numbers. See pages 117-118 of
the Acrobat 5.0 Help.
Solution 3
Use JavaScript to add page numbers. For an example, see Additional
