Fed's Lacker doesn't see 'gigantic' risks from raising rates too early
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Richmond Fed President Jeffrey Lacker said
Friday that recent easing moves by global central banks -- from the Bank of
Japan, the Swedish Riksbank, and the European Central Bank -- doesn't raise
concerns about the risks of lifting interest rates too early in the United
States. "I don't see it that way," Lacker said in an interview on Bloomberg
Radio. "I don't see the risk of raising rates too early as gigantic. I think
we can take a balanced approach." Lacker, who becomes a voting Federal Open
Market Committee member next year, said he was unsure whether the Bank of
Japan action announced Friday will have a large effect.
