急问一个cash settlement 和 margin account的问题# Stock

比如我在margin account 里，有1万 cash。我在第一天，买了价值1w块钱的 stock a
。在第二天，假设我把价值一万的stock a都卖了，而且股票没涨没跌，这样我在第二天
就又有1万的cash。同一天，我用这1万块钱，买了stock b。
那请问，这样的话，我算是day trade吗？
我理解的是，既然我买卖的不是同一支股票，就应该不算day trade。
请大牛指点。

好像有个规定，非margin account , 需要3（？）天的时间去settle cash.. 如果你
第2天就干，那么 broker 会容许你这么做。但会给你记一个警告。 3个警告后，你
就不能这么弄了。。
这是fidelity non-margin account 的规定。

In theory yes. Since your money is not settled, you are using money
borrowed from your broker. But I don't think it will charge you interest.
Even it charges you interest, it is negligible since you borrow it for only
a few days.

第二天钱没settle，肯定是从broker借的

我一直认为，没settle的钱可以继续买，但是买来的股票不能在settle前卖掉
比如楼主这个case，他第二天买股票b用的的确是没settle的钱，但是没事，只是股票b
不能在卖a股票settle之前再卖出
这个过程应该没向broker借钱
不知道我的理解对不对

我只知道我的非margin account， stock b只能在stock a settle了才能卖。
settlement date那天就可以。
不然warning，3次后。买了stock a，就不让买stock b了。只有stock a settle才让了。

broker各不相同
etrade现金账户大于两万五随便折腾
从银行转钱转完马上就能买股票，不用等银行那边clear

我也收到 scottrade 的警告信了，好像只要维持账户资产在2w5 以上，就可以做 day
trader?

there are two different concepts here, day trade and free rider. If your
account balnace is less than $25k, you cannot have more than three day
trades within any five consecutive trading days. It is a rule set by SEC
after the tech bubble to protect small traders. This rule has nothing to do
with whether you have a cash or margin account. The other concept is free
rider. If you have a cash account, you still can use the unsettled money
after a sell to buy another security. However, you cannot sell it before
the money is settled; otherwise you will have a free rider. Normally your
broker might give you one excuse, and it will freeze your account for 90
days
if you have another free rider. Free riders can be avoided if you have a
margin account since you can always borrow money from your broker, within
margin requirement, and the money you borrow from your broker is not "
unsettled". Even you have a margin account, and therefore you don't need to
worry about free riders, you still need to follow the day trade rule if
your
account is less than $25k.

那按理说，钱是3天settle，那假如我第三天，走把stock b卖了，换了stock c，那岂
不我又借了一次钱。因为第一天的钱还差一天才settle.

可以买第二只股票，但是在钱settle前不能卖你的第二只股票。

You cannot sell b before the sale of a is settled.
Scottrade will warn you when you place the order.
