联大召开曼哈顿迎来“交通梦魇” 建议民众乘坐地铁

第78届联合国大会(UN
General assembly)周一（9月18日）在纽约市拉开序幕，曼哈顿中城迎来一年里最糟糕的交通拥堵，政府建议民众使用公共交通工具，尽量不要开车进城。
纽约市交通局将周一到周五定为“交通拥堵警醒日”，民众最好乘坐地铁或走路。

根据FOX5NY报道，超过150位国际政要将莅临曼哈顿，到位于中城东边的联合国总部参加大会。拜登总统将于周二发表演讲。
从周日（9月17日）起，随着数千名环保支持者走向街头抗议，曼哈顿就已经出现了交通拥堵，造成车辆、卡车、巴士停滞不动。
联大召开期间，纽约市警察局整装待命全力以赴，保护著名的地标和旅游胜地。
从34街道34街，第一大道和第七大道之间，将有更多警察巡逻。
警察局长卡班(Edward Caban)表示目前没有针对纽约市的可信威胁。
卡班表示，纽约市警察局各个部门都参与到安保工作中，包括巡逻警察、侦探部、特别行动组，包括航空、港口巡逻、紧急服务、K-9，等等。
据交通局称，联合国大会召开的那一周被认为是市中心一年中交通最拥堵的日子，导致车速低于每小时4英里。交通局希望民众为减少纽约交通堵塞尽一份力，把车留在家里。
