The educational advisor will be responsible for providing comprehensive academic guidance and support to international students enrolled in A-level and GCSE courses at Merton College London. The advisor will act as a bridge between students, teachers, and parents, facilitating effective communication and ensuring the students' educational needs are met.
Academic Guidance:
Provide personalized academic advice and guidance to international students, helping them select appropriate courses, set educational goals, and develop study plans aligned with their interests and aspirations.
University Applications:
Assist students with university application processes, including advising on suitable universities and courses, reviewing application materials, and preparing for interviews and entrance exams.
Cultural Integration:
Support students in adjusting to the British education system and local culture, providing insights into academic expectations, study habits, and cultural norms to facilitate a smooth transition.
Parent Communication:
Maintain regular communication with current/prospective parents/guardians, providing progress updates, addressing concerns, and ensuring a collaborative approach towards the students' educational development.
Tutoring and Mentoring:
Offer additional academic support to students who require extra assistance, identifying areas for improvement, and providing guidance on study skills, time management, and exam preparation.
Liaison with Teachers:
Collaborate closely with teachers to understand students' strengths and weaknesses, gather feedback, and develop strategies for improvement to enhance academic performance.
Educational Workshops
Organize and conduct workshops, seminars, and presentations on various educational topics to enhance students' knowledge and provide valuable information to help them make informed decisions.
Student Well-being:
Monitor students' well-being and academic progress, identifying and addressing any challenges or issues that may hinder their success. Provide appropriate referrals to support services as needed.
Stay Updated:
Keep abreast of the latest developments in the UK education system, university admissions procedures, and relevant academic resources to ensure the provision of accurate and up-to-date information to students and parents.
Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
Strong understanding of the UK education system, including A-level and GCSE courses
Familiarity with university admissions procedures in the UK
Experience working with international students and knowledge of overseas educational culture
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese (both written and spoken)
