【冬天种菜】育萝卜苗

美国北方冬天，漫天的鹅毛大雪下了几天之后，到处都白茫茫一片。黑狗身上白，白狗身上肿。厚厚的积雪能盖住山，盖住水，但盖不住美女帅哥们种菜的热情！虽然在室外种不了蔬菜，但可以在室内种菜。今年的种菜班决定先在温室发萝卜苗。

用来育萝卜小苗的萝卜籽有很多品种。我们买了一个在美国很受欢迎的品种：中国玫瑰（China Rose），还是一个挺诗意的品种。中国玫瑰的叶子和茎秆微红色，味道辛辣。请注意，用来发萝卜苗的种子一定得是没有包裹化肥农药的。这是发萝卜苗的塑料盒子。用来育萝卜小苗的萝卜籽包装袋上会标有类似For Sprouting这样的字样。朋友们购买之前要看清楚。

育萝卜苗需要容器。只要能漏水的容器就能用来育苗。这次我们用的是塑料小托盘。在塑料托盘上铺几层纸巾，将纸巾弄湿，撒萝卜籽，盖纸巾，喷水。接下来几天需要每天萝卜籽喷点水，保持潮湿。

因为买了一大包萝卜籽，培育了一批萝卜苗之后，还有不少种子剩余，所以我们又在育苗大托盘里试着发萝卜苗。我们找了两个育苗大托盘，一个有漏水孔，一个没有漏水孔。在有漏水孔的托盘里装1/3潮湿的育苗土，整平。撒上萝卜籽，盖一层薄薄的育苗土，喷水。在接下来的几天里保持湿润。过了一个星期，萝卜苗就可以收获了。

用湿纸巾育的萝卜苗，萝卜苗味道很浓郁。用育苗土育的萝卜苗产量高，但味道稍淡。

两种方法培育的萝卜苗都很好吃！嫩嫩的萝卜苗，人人都爱吃！我们一边收割，一边吃萝卜苗。多下来的萝卜苗，我给每人分了一小包。

美女帅哥们拿着亲手培育的萝卜苗，开开心心地回家了！

It is a great time to try microgreens indoors when it is too cold to grow vegetables outside. Our gardening class learned how to grow radish sprouts in the greenhouse this winter.

We bought radish seeds (variety: China Rose) online. Be sure to use seeds with no fertilizer or pesticide coating. These were sprouting trays.

Spread paper towel on the tray. Wet the paper towel. Spread radish seeds. Cover seeds with more paper towel. Another round of spraying. Radish seeds need to be kept moist in the following days.

Since we did not use all the seeds, we tried growing radish seedlings in potting mixture. Two plastic trays. One with drainage holes and one without. Add some moist potting mix to the tray with drainage holes. Spread seeds. Cover seeds with a thin layer of potting mix. Spray water to wet the potting mix. Keep the potting mix moist.

Radish seedlings are ready to be harvested in 5-7 days.
