标题: pension plan 和 optional retirement plan选哪个划算？

pension 是要contribute salary的 11.54% （我的理解是employer 会match？）
optional retirement plan叫啥 401a，可以自己通过fidelity账户管理，contribute
工资的 7%，employer match 7%。
我的理解是pension的话就是交给退休基金管理，401a可以自己选择股票或者基金？
pension的plan employer也会match contribution的吧？如果是这样，那就是工资以外
，employer 还额外给11.54% ？？？

多谢版主的支持，希望搞好博后这个版面，观察一段时间，几个大方面的问题：
1.J1豁免（我不懂，从没拿过J1，希望斑竹多多答疑）
2.博后申请
3.OPT，H1B申请和transfer
4.找工作
5.办绿卡，主要走EB1
我尽可能来答疑，好的帖子会mark发包子（大包子也会，特别是经验、长贴、薄厚申请
面试、找工作面试、办绿卡等），既然是博后版，与此相关的话题都可以讨论，不管是
否与其他版面有重叠，特别鼓励把原贴发在本版，增加人气，上十大和首页的好贴会给

今天一个原来认识的人和我说的，我说正在考cpa，准备考完换工作，她说其实很多公
司更喜欢正在准备考试的人，不知道是真是假？大家知道吗？

是学校的吗？我是自己6%，单位14%，我就从了。但是pension就不能自己投资了吧。

LZ，你说考完cpa换工作，意思是你现在还是有工作的，工作经验很重要啊。

Pension is a difined benefit retirement plan, meaning the benefit payment to
the retiree is defined by the plan. As such, the pension is fully
responsible for investment and payout. Investment risk falls solely on the
pension, not the investor. ( consider social security a giant national
pension) 401 k is a defined contribution plan, where the contribution by the
employee wnd employer is defined. It is a self managed plan by investors,
who bear the investment risk fully.
Companies sponsoring Traditional pensions are hard to find nowadays. I
wouuld definetly jump onto a pension plan.andd meanwhile use 401k iras as
supplement. This way rlinvestment risk ls are diversified to the max.

given the precarious financial condition of many states, I suspect pension
may not be a good choice, especially if not portable.
