据报道:
More than 2 dozen people have died in a series of attacks by giant hornets
in central China over the past three months, according to published reports.
The insects are as much as 2 inches long with a nearly a quarter-inch
stinger. They have also injured hundreds more, the Guardian reported.
The attacks have been centered in Ankang, in central China, where 18 of the
fatalities occurred.
The actual insect is commonly called an Asian giant hornet. Its scientific
name is Vespa mandarinia (see photo).
Scientists have speculated that warmer temperatures are leading to increased
breeding by the insects.
