记得以前unix下好像要设置一个X11协议, 然后xterm过去, 就能直接run GUI的程序.

你那个X11直接xterm的早过时了。用nomachine的NX，mac上也有client,在linux
machine上装个server,速度很快，带宽够的话几乎和local desktop一样。

for VNC, there's a problem if i view youtube remotely. do they actually
compress the desktop when transmitting ?
