I used turbo tax last year 2011. This year 2012, I switched to HR block for saving a little bit money. The income and everything else was very similar for 2011 to 2012, but there is huge difference: I had to pay more than 3000 dollar than last year. The main reason I briefly looked at is the AMT. Based on turbon, I was not hit by AMT. In contrast, I need to pay AMT using HR block. Is HR Block really this bad? or there is any change this year?
Although turbotax is better in my opinion, I don't think H&R will make such a huge mistake. I suggest you double check all the entries, and compare forms created by both software to see where the difference is coming from.

I think most probably you put in data a little bit differently which resulted in difference. In my case, HRBlock initially come out with a higher refund, but then I found out there is a subtle place where I misunderstood, and after fixing it the result came out exactly as the other software.
