Next year NASA will use rock-nibbling tools to explore the martian surface.

NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory have a new plan to crack the surface
of Mars. While they can't send a human geologist or bring a rock back from
the Red Planet just yet, they have the ability to do the next best thing —
send RATs. Not the furry, four-legged creatures, but high-tech robots with
diamond teeth, known as rock abrasion tools, that will act as field
geologists.
