San Jose: Driver killed in collision on Highway 101

SAN JOSE -- A 45-year-old San Jose man was killed Sunday night following a
collision on southbound Highway 101 in South San Jose, according to the
California Highway Patrol.
The Santa Clara County Coroner's Office has identified the man as Eric
Schrader.
Schrader was driving a red Honda Accord at about 8:10 p.m. when he changed
lanes north of Hellyer Avenue and collided with a silver Audi A4, according
to a preliminary investigation by the CHP. After the collision, the Honda
went off roadway and collided with an orange detour sign and came to a stop
on its roof on the shoulder of the southbound lanes.
The Honda Accord was moving at a high rate of speed at the time of the
collision, according to the CHP. The Audi, driven by a 48-year-old San Jose
woman, was going 65 mph, according to the CHP.
Schrader died at the scene.
The Audi stopped on the right shoulder following the crash. The woman
complained of pain but refused medical treatment at the scene.
