I have asked this question before and Someone said he/she transfer from J1
to J2 inside US successfully. Now I want to know whether there are official
documents saying that it is not necessary to leave US during this change. I
need the proof. As the HR does not agree to tranfer it for my husband if he
does not leave US. Thank you very much!

查了IRS的网站，我这种情况肯定是填1040-NR，可是会计师已经帮几个同学file了
resident alien tax return了，说是可以多退一些钱。这种情况显然是违反规定的，
不知道到时候IRS真的查起来会计师（他们也签字的）和本人会有多大麻烦？谢谢！

I know someone has done it successfully. I need the proof to tell the
international officer that it is legal to do this. Otherwise she does not do
it for us. That's the problem.
I have read the I-539 instr., but my brain is totally useless now. Could
you please tell me which line is the proof that we can do it inside US?

我想也是，他们只是经手人，应该不会负法律责任的，尽管他们也签了字。
对了，既然把大牛引出来了，顺便问一下就每月税前2000左右死工资当RA的F1，报ＮＲ
（不太清楚）和Resident（3000左右的federal tax退1600左右） 真有那么大差距吗？

As far as I know, J-1 cannot transfer to J-2 in US unless J-1 has got waiver.

区别大发了，做个简单估算吧：
NR：taxable income = 2000*12-5000-3650 = 15350，应缴税1889刀。
R：taxable income = 2000*12-5000-3650-5700 = 9650，应缴税1034-400=634刀。
以上计算还不考虑有孩子和其它resident能拿的deduction和credit的情况。
