Recently helped a collaborator in China to revise their responses to
reviewers' comments. I found the Editor-in-Chief asked them:
"To increase the visibility and impact of this study, it is advisable that
the authors search through articles recently published in THIS journal,
XXXXX, and cite 3 to 4 relevant articles published since 2011".
The impact factor of this journal is around 3; seems all are contributed by
the self citation advised by the Editor-in-Chief.
Speechless!

So many journals are doing the same way. Check Int J Hydrogen Energy. Self-
citation accounts for 50% citations.

一般编辑不直接说，但投稿前自己要加些该杂志最近的相关文章吧

这基本是行规吧。最恶心的是审稿人要求加他发表的文章和出版的书籍，太恶心了

编辑和作者都喜欢高影响因子, 利益呀。
nature和子刊之间也没少互引吧，小杂志不是系列的，没法互引，只能自引了

我发过一个6分左右的肿瘤杂志，最后主编指定了2篇他们杂志的文章让我引用，根本
跟我的文章没啥关系。
