求发育生物学达人解释
比如 肝脏就长n千克,既不会变n+1千克,也不会n-1千克,怎么知道长到n就停止的?
为什么左手和右手几乎一样大?
为什么所有人的眼球体积都是a+/-b立方厘米,既不会大于上限,也不会低于下限?
为什么蚂蚁那么小,大象那么大?
全部都是一个hippo信号通路控制的?不可能吧。
有什么模型来解释这个吗

你说这些有的是genetic上差异造成的,有的是正态分布的随机过程。

This is actually a very interesting question. I don't think we know too much
about it. Circulating hormones such as growth hormone clearly play a role.
Intrinsic species-specificity (whatever it may be) must be involved as well.
The amazing thing is, even within a specific organ, the rations of
different parts/cell types are also well maintained. My feeling is that some
smart genetic analyses will be required to get a handle on this issue.
There also could be organ-specific mechanisms involved.

总觉得说一个pathway控制organ size 实在太简化了点。
换个角度看,发育的过程就是embryonic progenitor cell逐渐specify, restrict成为
lineage specific stem cell或者消失的过程。看看Hippo pathway是如何调控stem
cell的形成,特化应该会很有意思。
