David Yao belongs to the top researchers in Operations Research and Industrial
Engineering. But he is old now.

I don't believe Chen Hong qualifies. He is an expert in Queuing theory,
but not as good as Jim Dai.
Jim Dai is really good at queuing networks, better than Chen. So if you have
Dai, why choose Chen? Overlapped.
Song is a student of P Zipkin and David Yao. She is good, but not as good
as Chen Fangruo in Columbia.
So all those guys know each other and work with each other very of

I think that most of the professors here are doing research in operation
research or operation management, or Econometrics. Of course they should be
good at maths. There are other research areas in business which don't need too
much maths background, like OB, Accounting,even finance and marketing.
Although there are a lot of people in marketing and finance who are doing a
lot of maths work, there are many research subfields in these areas which
don't need so much maths background. It really depe

nod. My prof used to tell us repeatedly to think creatively and critically.
I think creative thinking is the most important thing in anything. I guess to
be able to think logically is presumed/bottom line when one is admitted into
any graduate program.

但是,撇开学科本身不谈,研究方法本身对数学的要求就很高.如果你有好的idea,但如果没
有能力把它formalize并科学地document下来,还是不行的.因为科学本身要求严谨.我知道
有的人有很好的intuition,但却对研究工具的应用望而生畏,这样也作不出好的research.

one of the most creative things about research is to find efficient and
powerful tools such that we can solve problems more easily. never talk about
seperating "tech" or so called "cretivity", or about "after mastering tech".
especially nowdays, and for research areas like contract theory, information
economics, u can never know what is going on without understanding the math
in the papers. also, "research" in the industry has few to do with theory,
creativity, or foresight.
