MeOH and Pd/c is a dangerous combination. Better avoid that combo all
together. Switch the solvent to EtOH would reduce the "fire/combustion"
risk dramatically. When doing filtration to remove the used catalyst, make
sure you do NOT make the catalyst super dry and exposed to air.
I agree EtOAc is a much benign solvent for hydrogenation in this respect.
But the speed of hydrogenation therein is very slow compared to using EtOH.
