Sorry, haven't been here for long…
She graduated last year and moved to a different city. She's not my student
– I was on her thesis committee. I had written a (good) rec letter for
her postdoc application. She's lovely girl and we had a good relationship,
but nothing special.
Today I (quite unexpectedly) received a delivery of a large bouquet of fresh
flowers (mostly pink roses) from a local flower shop. Apparently she had
ordered the delivery.
She had written on a hand-written card, "Con

要注册个LLC，主要做进出口和网络销售（ebay, amazon），注册在哪个州比较好？我
google了一下，似乎是主要看annual fee和income tax，我在NJ，income tax rate满
高。但是注册在其他州要用foreign LLC，也有些不方便。诸位注册过有经验的指点一

Some answer from turbotax
"You can choose to be treated as a resident alien for the entire year only
if you are a resident alien at the end of the year and you are married and
you both make the choice to be treated as residnet s for the entire year and
you need to file a joint return reporting worldwide income. In that case
however, you would become liable for social security and medicare for the
time you were on F1 as only non-residents are exempt. This might also affect
any tax treaty you ight be eligible for during the time on F1. "

这里的措辞跟你那里一样，都是用may/might，有些似是而非。不过在这个网页里举了
一个例子是F1第六年虽然变成resident也还是可以拿treaty.对于f1转h1b的情况是不是
也这样，等待牛人解惑。
我对deductible的计算公司不是从软件来的，就是看一下1040表里的item 40和42。

如果是这样的话就太好了。
回到最初的问题，跟dual status比哪个好？
因为用dual status 前半年是学生，后半年是resident，好像也是同样的计算公司？
或者有些别的地方有区别？

You will not be an exempt individual as a student in 2011 if you have been

这里calendar years对于我来说应该是从秋季学期到下一年的夏学期吧。按这样我应该

Petitprince’s suggestion is very sensible.
To OP, why do you use the word embarrass? Look, I am an AP who has never
received any flower from a female student. This is an emotionally
embarrassing situation for me. But yours is definitely something worth
celebrating. You served on her committee, wrote her a strong rec letter,
helped her in her career. Any normal graduate student will find one way or
the other to express her gratitude.

我博士老板当年 获奖了 发了牛文章了 也有很多人送花祝贺 大多是女性，可能女生
更细心体贴些，喜欢送花些，男性一般是送点实物啥的。
礼貌回复，自己别想多就行了吧。

well well well, it depends on where you want this relationship go. If you
are looking for something aggressive, you can go: the smell of you reminds

Isn't it obvious? She is testing the water. She surely is interested in
you, yet she doesn't want to be too direct, because 1) you are both married

就是啊。想得太多，心里有点不阳光。
有些美国女孩有的就是喜欢用LOVE签名，可能是从小养成的习惯吧。我第一次收到这种
卡片时还是TA的时候，也觉得有点怪怪的。后来习惯了，也知道没什么意思之后，就好
了。
有一次看儿子从学校拿回来的卡片，几个女孩签写了LOVE，儿子还专门说她们给好些人
都这么写，没什么别的意思。俺就说俺知道。哈哈。

我想这个女学生所做的就是为了人际关系(不是贬义的）。她现在做博士后，也许以后
申请教职会申请LZ所在学校也不一定。或者有机会一起发PAPER之类的。LZ就当普通同
事回复就行了。

More likely she want to keep a good connection with you for career purpose,
but also can not totally rule out if she actually has romantic interest in
you too.
No need to give special thank back gifts, just email her and let her know
your appreciation for the gift ("I like these roses!" blah blah, need to
talk about the gift with a passion). You can also ask how she is doing with
her career, ask if there is anything you can help. Actually, your help
with her career is the best gift you can giv

That Chinese girl is quite bold to do that. Obviously, she know what she is
doing and how you will feel. There do be a good relationship between you.
But you don't need to think too much of how to response, because either way
you two will have no result of love in future. If you response very
positively, you could become "红颜知己". If you need someone in your life
like that, it's a good chance. But nothing bad will happen if you control
well. If you response negatively or plainly, she will know tha

baffled by the complexity you described. Without too much background
information, I certainly can not offer any meaningful suggestion, nor can
draw any conclusion. However, one thing is crystal-clear to me,
she IS somewhat emotionally attached to you, maybe purely platonic. When
