as Charles Rosen put it in his seminal "Classical Style",
the opera is one of the failure trials of opera seria, even
though the opera is by no means short of Mozart's beautiful
tunes and exquisite style. I have not listened to this
opera myself, honestly, but given the experience of listening
to other opera seria masterpieces, the inferiority is the
dramatic side in terms of music.
greatest operas by Mozart surely are those comic operas. btw,
