这是一本不常见的书。我们平常见到的音乐评论，就其中好的而言，也只反映了一时的口
味。另外，古典音乐活力不再，说得再热闹也没有切身感。Haskell 搜集了三个世纪来有
代表性的评论，还亲自翻译了一部分，使得我们有机会了解人们的口味和所关注问题的变
迁。其中有很多我只闻其名而没得一见的文章。比如汉斯利克和萧伯纳对瓦格纳评论。
Haskell的前言也很精彩，引其中一句----
“......writing about music is always in some sense an exercise in futility.
Yet it hardly ever occured to them to question the POSSIBILITY of meaningful
criticism. Their mission - for to them criticism was a CALLING, not a mere
