Just watched the 2003 WSS, and found top dancers don't change their
choreography as often as we think. I can understand that for competitions,
but for show dances in an annual dance festival as big as the one in Japan,
i don't expect to see the same dances from the same couple every year.
Slavik and Karina's 5 dances in 2003 are so similar to those in 2004. The
classical, graceful rumba we discussed the other day is almost the same - of
course they modified it slightly here and there; the music

bryan and carmen's paso is all the same from 99-2004.
and some of them use the same music in the same year.

some change more often than others, it could take a lot of energy time and
resources (in case of hired choreographer) to prepare show dances. i think
some have more passion for it than others. but even the most creative and
enthusiastic show dancers will have one or two favorite numbers that they re
-use throughout their career. it becomes what they're known for.
i do appreciate creativity and shwomanship, but on the other hand, what
dancesport is most about is perfection of execution. seeing ho

Not only has their technique improved, but their way to carry themselves as
performing artists has refined, esp. slavik. In WSS 2003, when he saluted
the audience after the performance, you can see he tried to cheer the
audience by inviting a japanese granny sitting in the front row to dance a
few steps. He had beard/sideburns, came out an almost naked upper body
showing biceps triceps or whateverceps, and walked with a touch of desperado
's style. In 2004, he controled his gestures; he showed

Depends on the context.
On the dance floor you probably wanna show off instead of being humble.

but taking the applause is a receiving process. you sould show the audience
your gratitute, rather than giving by trying to impress the audience with
you bow.
"the moer you are able to genuinely receive, the more generous an applause
will be your reward. Have a look at ballet dancers taking bows. Notice their
humility and receiving state."

Wow, quote from a book. i don't think i can beat a book ;)
But my observation is ballet dancers and standard dancers have a different
style; they may take bows in a fashion different from latin dancers. And i
guess when i wrote i was thinking in the narrow context of latin dancers,
esp. male latin dancers.
How's that book? Did you read it?

good to know! looks it's another book that's published in UK.
Does that mean dancesport is bigger in europe than here? just recall last
week a visting teacher (from the netherlands) to the studio said something
like that. I tried viennese waltz with the teacher and got too dizzy to
stand straight afterwards :D

from what i know, it's much bigger in europe.
i never feel dizzy dancing VW. i have nothing against Chinese social dancers,
but i feel dizzy every time i dance 快三 with them... it sucks, and i'm
amazed
by any girl who can dance 快三 and stand still afterwards.

good evening! feels it's an odd hour to chat on friday night...but it's fun.
you mean you never feel dizzy dancing vw? admire yah. you must have really
good sense of balance built naturally in your body.
i remember, just before graduation from high school, there were people on
campus to hire for the pilot program. some classmates went to apply and came
back with a simple balance test given by those people. Ready? here's the
balance test: you stand; bend your upper body downward and extend both h

no, i have real bad balance. i can't spin at all. vw is not about turn
or spin. yes, every figure is either natural turn of reverse turn. but
it's more about travel linearly. and every step has fixed alignment.
you know exactly where you go and where you should end up, very unlikely
to lost orientation.
i tried that test in high school too. of course i sucked.(:

I never really learned vw, so i believe what you said. i guess you feel
dizzy dancing with chinese social dancers because you (who know the fixed
alighment) never know where they are gonna lead you (as they have no formal
training) so you lose orientation...
if we are not from the same high school, it means that balance test was so
popular, huh? interesting!

some guys dance 快三 stationarily, just to make lots of spins.
and not everyone can dance natural steps, though most can do reverse.
