Although independence day ball camp is still going on, to me it is 'post' as
i only attended two days. But obviously it is the first time for me to see
so many serious dancers (am or pro) all together taking workshops during my
short dance life; and it has triggered a lot of my thoughts on different
aspects of my little dance hobby.
Before i started, oldcountry has raised the question which i was about to
raise myself (quote oldcountry below):

我现在是跳silver，所以观点可能只适用于syllabus level。
我觉得一年里头，见个三五次superstar，上上workshop，甚至private lesson，都未
尝不可，只要不是travel太远、太费精力、财力就行。很多时候，每个老师的讲法都不
太一样，细心体会一下相同和不同点，对理解“理论”很有帮助。不过最后，还是要运
用到自己的practice中去，那样上课的钱和时间才算没白花。
至于再往上去，到open level，这个还得请高人来说一说。

i am supporting your point with an example: the accent of chacha are on 1
and 3 (esp. on 1); my teacher said it quite a few times but i didn't know
how to emphasize those two beats. Ron Bennett at the camp had a different
way：you are wearing very pretty shoes; you show off them. I think i now
know how :D

a. I need the teacher to demonstrate dance actions or figures. I guess the
first thing for me is to imitate movements and shapes. I need to see with my
eyes before i do. This is particularly important for the lower level stage.

agree on most part, but for styling, you really need to figure it out on
your own instead of just copying what the teachers do, or at least should
copy the ones that fit your personality/body type/capability best. Just
because someone's styling looks nice doesn't mean it will work on another
person, same as why Hilary Clinton should never tell a joke like Ellen
DeGenerous -- people's movements/actions reflect who they are, any
artificial attempt to project a different image would usually look an

Very good point and analogy! It is way too early for me to say 'my style' -
i don't have any at this moment. To develop, one will have to first copy/
imitate a few from different people - it's like building a vocabulary for
little babies - they have to imitate before they can use their minds to say
their own words. Or (in your hobby expertise), i had to copy/imitate some
singer's style or sing her songs a lot before i could claim my own singing
style :) Gradually one will need to do what you sai

en, sexy usually looks cheap. it would be better if one could achieve both
"sexy" and "beautiful".
