【在 a***e 的大作中提到】 : Interesting! I never know these. : why is Millennium so popular? Is the organizer a well known guy/lady? : Who did Karina partner to dance?
Say if the entry fee is 25 per dance, 50,000 / 25 = 2000 entries. You said there are 16,000 entries this year. Even if there were 10,000 entries, ballroom is only 1/5 of it. And my assumption of 25 per dance is way too low.
【在 w***5 的大作中提到】 : Renting a large ballroom in a hotel will easily cost $50,000 : for a week. Hopefully, you can find the answer.

There are other costs. They have to pay the judges and the performers, and the advertising, too. However, they should still make money, or they need to get the heck out of the business.
low.

I am not saying there are no other costs. That is not my point. I am just saying ballroom rental is possibly less than 1/5 of the revenues. Now, Wu175 said it's $40 per dance. Say it's 15000 entries. 15,000 x $40 = $600,000. So ballroom cost is less than 10% of revenues. The competition brings people to live in the hotel. The hotel definitely loves competitions. There is definitely discount from the hotel to competition organizer. Anyway, there is a big margin (90% of revenues) to cover costs like paying judges and performers. Don't simply think cost for judges and performers are just costs. These famous judges and performers are going to attract more revenues for next year! Once on it, tt is a good cycle for the smart organizer. What are other costs? paying to music, MC, and a few staff people like deck capitan, ticket sellers etc.. Some competitions have volunteers to collect tickets at door and ushers. (Remember I volunteered for IDSF New York competition!) Don't forget the tickets! That is another big source of revenues. $55/person on 2 big night sessions (friday night and saturday night) is standard charge. There are other off-peak sessions that charges maybe 25/session? (8 such sessions: from tuesday through thursday, plus friday day session and saturday day session). Then we have to estimate the audience number to be able to put a revenue number. (e.g. $55 x 500 people x 2 nights = $55,000, enough for ballroom rental!) My ultimate point is: People (dancers and audience) simply don't realize THEY THEMSELVES make the event possible, by paying a lot of money to the event. The organizer 只需要召集组织一下. 大家只以为组织者厉害, 不知道自己其 实是真正的起作用的人. "they should still make money, or they need to get the heck out of the business" --- you are absolutely right. None of the competitions get out of business. that means, they are making money!!

Are you a business major? What an analysis paper! To clear what I said, that renting a ballroom will cost easily $50,000. I didn't say the hotel at Millenium will cost $50,000. I believe it will cost much more, possibly $120,000-150,000 because it is a much better hotel. 5万刀搞个比赛在中小型酒店还可能。 我认识一个有志搞比赛的,搞了几年,每年赔几万-十几万刀,只好放弃了。 不过这个事业在国内到是有钱景。
just people is paying performers are more

well, NDCA just kicked USA Dance out. Very bad, i really don't like too much politics out there. I don't think NDA can ever beat IDSF, maybe called WDSF now.
i am not mean.
