I installed PWS on win98. Then I do some query in my asp pages, it works.

Yes, SQL server desktop version works in Win9x. But there
are certain
restrictions, such as no browsering function, etc.. As far
as I remember,
only name pipe connection is supported, no TCP/IP.

tcp/ip works well.
use portscan u can find default port 1433 active.
in client network utilities tcp/ip can be found.

You are right. It is vice versa. Name pipe doesn't work
for desktop
edition, but TCP/IP works.
