I've been doing research about creating PDF on the fly in asp.net web
applications these days.
1. We don't wanna spend money on commercial PDF creators.
2. There are a bunch of open-source PDF creators, but either they are not
very powerful, or they are not asp.net. For example, iTextSharp and
PDFSharp are OK in generating PDF files, but they do not seem to be very
strong in formatting (or maybe I am wrong). Reportlab claims to be free and
extremely powerful, but it is in Python. Well, I kn

I did the same thing too, couple years ago
I think I looked at ABC_PDF or something like that, it was free.
but the company decided to spend about $150 to buy a DynamicPDF, I was very
pleased with that product

Yes, I know ABC_PDF, they give it for free if the user advertises it.
I know of Dynamic PDF, but as my boss won't spend a penny on it,
I did not look into it.
PDFSharp/MigraDoc, the product itself, is very nice,
the light version is completely free,
but they do not have any documentation, you will have
to comb through their source or sample code to figure out
how to use it. They answer questions nicely at their
user support forum though.

another option is to use reporting services report, and export to PDF. I
think there is a way to render to PDF directly without user interaction too.

I know that Crystal Report can do this, not sure about SQL Server Reporting
Service.
We need to have some particular format, which I don't think the reporting se
rvice can handle.

if it's like the sample you posted, SQL reporting services can do it no

There are many of them I used b4: reporting services; aspose; flexcel;

yes sql reporting service can generate PDF document. The interesting thing
is it cannot generate Word document, except xml based Word doc for Office
2007.
