crystal report for .net# DotNet - 窗口里的风景

Does anyone have experience on reporting from large dataset(say,>10,000 rows)
using crystal report? What's the best way to deal with it?Especially in web
applicaton? Is there any propery in crystal report viewer or document that can
be set to let the report only fetch partial data needed by that page? I know
there is a SeperatePages property but don't know whether it will do the things
I want.

Could you use dataset to do this kind of "window" thing?
If one is not enough, how aobut two? One to store large data set. One to store
some small set. :)
Just my thought.

I did think about this way but seemed it's not a good way.
Basically reports have total filed or sub total for each group. You won't want
to do a lot of calculation in the code first like the number of the groups
that will be generated and put each group in different dataset,or calculate
the total and store it within the dataset and pass it to the report. It can be
done but just cumbersome.I still want to let crystal report handles these
things.

If this is for multiple user, and the data doesn't change very often,
how about save/cache the report in a centralized place.
I heard that the newer version of crytal report has this feature (not
the version comes with VS.NET).

Active Report is better and much cheaper.

What do you mean the save report doesn't come with vs.net?Actually I can
export the report to disk filled with data in many formats like
.rpt,.doc,.rdf.The problem right now is it looks like crystal report can't
handle such large dataset(>50M) and always give me out of memory error though
I have enough physical and virtual memory.

so u are using ADO.NET dataset, right?
Have u tried to connect from Crystal Report to your database directly?
Also you may try to divide the big report to many sub-reports.
It doesn't make much sense put all 10,000 rows in a single report.

Please tell us something about Active Report.
Is it really better in terms of report designing, compatibility with
.NET, exporting to pdf, and print formatting?

i used its .net version for more than 1 yr and its previous version for 2
years, they're pretty good. i'm not doing a commercial here but i do know
quite a few ppl switch from crystal to this (and they have a wizard to
convert).
it supports pdf, excel, html, rdf, rtf formats. pdf is the best. excel is
basically a text-to-text conversion, but they have a spreadsheet builder class
if you need to more controls over data types, format, groupings, etc. the
reports can be exported either to files or m
