I am looking for a side job and may have an offer coming up. But I want to
figure out how do I telecommute in windows xp pro (that company's development
machine and my home pc are both xp pro) environment. I've telecommunted in
Linux environment before and it was easy; telnet and ftp w

if your internet connection is fast, remote desktop works fine too.

VPN will be my last choice because I'll need to setup all the software and
clients on my home computer.
I guess I'll try remote desktop first, if it's too slow then I'll do VPN.

if I use VPN I'll be just using it for file transfers, most of the actual work
will be done locally on my machine.
when I say remote desktop is slow, I mean the response time of keyboard/mouse
input, which may drive me crazy after extended period of time.

do you have Verizon Fios offering in your area? if you do, i recommend you to
get
a 15Mbps/2Mbps or 30Mbps/5Mbps service from them. or get a business class
symmetric
DSL.
telecommute with an ordinary ADSL or cable modem service is not enough since
the up
link is too slow.
