it is kind of difficult to differentiate economic conservative from political
conservative. usually whether or not an economist is conservative depends on
what political views he holds. after all, economists have pretty good
consensus on most economic issues. we all know progressive tax distorts
incentives, trade is good, price/wage control is bad, wellfare decreases
efficiency, etc. it is economists' value (normative) judgement that influence
their views on the trade-off between efficiency and

yeah, of course. i support gun control, abortion, gay marriage. that makes me
a libral.
the harder choice is in tax and social welfare. conservatives like Barro and
Prescott support tax cut no matter what. believing in market's ability to
provide social insurance, they also don't like the idea of a welfare state. A
year ago i was one of these conservative guys, inluenced by Friedman. now i am
more and more closer to where liberal economist like Blinder and Krugman
stand.

leave the ideology alone, i guess it doesnt make any sense to reduce tax
(permanently) when you increase spending a lot and have a huge deficit at the
same time.
