看了很多讨论job market 的帖子, 多是个人感受, 主观成分较多, 本文发扬economics研
究的精神, 大胆假设, 小心求证, 做了个美国academic job market供需粗浅分析, 算是
迈出定量分析的第一步吧. 本文数据有很多估计和假设的地方, 如果并不贴近现实或需加
以补充的, 大家尽可发表意见, 只为了大家对job market能有更客观的认识.
本文主要针对美国的tenure track junior assistant professor的市场做出分析, 主要
面向广大在读phd们, 我想这块市场也是大家普遍最关心的.
I. 先看供给:

这里的样本是2002年在美国拿到学位的博士人数, 数据来自于John Cawley. A GUIDE (

在我的文章中已明确指出分析只是针对美国学校tenure track 的assistant professor的
position, Cawley's paper did mention that only about 2% job seeker couldn't
find a job, but those jobs could be industry jobs, visiting positions,
postdocs, or whatever jobs in canada, HK or other countries, which were not
under consideration in my article before.
Cawley's paper did also mention that two third of them found tenure-track
positions, 但是其中部分工作是在美国以外的,假设美国以外的position 占其中1/3, 那
么, 找到US tenure track的比例为67%*(2/3)=44%. 而且, Cawley's

It seems that the situation is worse than Leondean wrote. I remember a table
about the job market which is collected by AEA from asking econ dept chairs to
provide the placement of their students. If I remember correctly, only about
one hundred academic positions finally materialized. That is, many jobs
advertised in JOE did not hire anyone, because of budget or no satisfactory

whether they will have money next year o
