这个星期小学实习开始,非常stressful,但是收获挺大。
我的合作老师是台湾人在这里已经教了30多年了,比美国老师还要棒。她给了我很多帮
助,也很无私。我可以感觉到我的弱点是语言,她也很坦率的指出我的弱点,并且会帮
助我纠正语言的问题。虽然很紧张压力也很大但是觉得有收获。这个这个学校是个非常
好的学校,家长们普遍很有钱,所以他们的期望值也很高,在这个学校工作的老师都很
优秀,曾经有的老师因为家长不喜欢而不得不离开。
说实话我其实心里还是对自己的语言能力没信心,这么好的学校我是不敢take a
position的,尽管我的合作老师说她要在这一两年内退休,她希望我能找到一份工作锻
炼一年半载的然后去申请她的位置。可是我实在是没胆量接她的班,哪怕是一年半载以
后。

我和楼主的感觉很相似。 我在5年级实习。班上的孩子都很好很听话。我非常想和他们
多交流,可是语言是很大问题。和cooperating teacher交流也有障碍。她本身也不是
爱说话的人,基本都是我问她答。我学到很多东西,但也很没信心。我觉得自己没有能
力handle整个年级,每天上5个periods的课,还要和同事,家长,校长交流,越想越觉
得是不可能完成的任务。沮丧时更认为自己还是不要误人子弟了。
楼主要教小学,可能要教的内容更多,对语言要求更高吧。

this self-defeating type of mind frame needs to be replaced by some positive
self-talking, if we are so self-conscious about the langauge barrier and
show our internal disturbance, our audience will discover the negative
energy... and react accordingly. Focus on the content of our speech other
than how it is transferred helps desensitize the talking phobia.

说的对,对于要教的东西和教法我有很多好的想法,我的教案会写的很好,但是到我上
台讲课的时候就完全不一样了,很多东西是要靠老师表现出来的,比如那种热情和与学
生之间的沟通等。我的合作老师会坦率的跟我说,她的district对语言要求很高,需要
讲polished 英语,但是她也说我只能会getting better.我也相信是这样的,我需要多
些练习才能积累更多的经验。没有别的选择,也不想选别的行业,这么多年的努力总不
能都被否认了吧?潜意识里,我还是坚信自己可以的。但是过来人比较切实际的鼓励会
让我很受用的。

My experience is kind of different than yours. I was an English major in
college and American English is my trade. So I grasped the language before I
learned an employable skill here. Needless to say my language skills helped
a lot.
In your situation, first of all, I doubt if the school district is willing
to file H1-B for you. Filing an H1-B means there's a shortage in that
subject area, and they are having a hard time finding an American teacher.
If it's a great suburban school district, they

thanks Lankeen, I have work permit now, I don't need to worry about H1-b,
only worry about English. Though I learnd English in Middle and high school
in China,it was almost nothing, I actually started to learn Chinese after I
came to the US about 6 years ago, my English gets better each year. Going to
school is really helpful. Now I am writting down those useful sentences
that my cooperating teacher uses to manage the class.
She suggested the same thing as you said, reading kids books and talki

我也有类似的经历,你不要气馁,一定要加油!大家都有学习的过程,语言也是,会慢
慢好起来的。而且会不会教书语言只是其中的一个因素,不是决定性因素。如果你决定
走这条路了,就一定会走好的。
我刚开始实习的时候也是因为语言的问题倍受打击,对自己没信心。因为语言不好,讲
课时候觉得什么的顾不过来,非常受打击。记得我们学校的advisor来我实习的学校
observe我以后,跟我很坦白的说我英语不好,我觉得他就差问我问什么要当老师了。
因为语言不好,讲课时候觉得什么的顾不过来,非常受打击。他说完以后,我在厕所里
面哭了半个多小时才出来。
工作以后,我的英语还是不perfect,也不太习惯美国小孩子尤其是我任教的
neighborhood 小孩子的 behavior and attitude.但是讲课学生能听懂啊。刚开始的时
候校长家长也对我有成见,甚至第一个月就有好几个家长要求把学生转到另外一个班,
让讲英语的老师教,觉得我教不了读书写作。后来第一年纽约州统考的时候我的校长还
不让我念 listening passage 呢,我心里极其不爽,但是比当student teacher时候的
难过是不

I've finished my 3rd week of elementary student teaching, and feel much
better than the first week. Students start getting to know me, and to like
me.They say "hi" to me when they see me in the hall way. I can manage them
by talking about the situation during the class, they listened and followed
my direction. Behavior management is all about how to phrase the language to
make students willing to behave. I wrote all the good language that my

The school that I am doing my student teaching now is not a private school,
it's a very good public school.

又是一个备受打击的一天,下午的一节课被我上的乱七八糟,越是着急越是说不好英语
,不过自己的受打击程度已经不像刚开始那么剧烈了,没办法我就是这样,这是经验的
积累不是一天半天的事情,语言也不可能在一夜之间就提高,我得面对现实,至少我一
直都在努力没有放弃。只要敢有人雇我,我就敢去教。

I heard Kansas City is hiring international teachers too. It might be close
to where you are now.

I had a rough day too, we had a staffing where the guys were teased,all
three guys whose mother tongue is spanish,the girls were English speaking,
and the leading girl has a big mouth & and she is a coo-coo one too. The
girls were literally talking down the boys, I was caught between, i mean I
am not English speaking and I am not a boy.

Good to hear that you had a rough day too, it makes me feel relaxed.
Actually, I talked to a friend who is student teaching in a "bad" high
school last night, she has hard time there, almost once a week she is in
tears. I was very stressed in the past weeks, I thought other people's days
are better than me. Turns out, my situation is not the worst.
and today, I have a good day so far, my adviser came to observe me and I did
a great job. it lights my day up.
