Position Title: Natural Catastrophe Modeler
Location: Miami, FL
Reports To: Regional Catastrophe Manager and AVP
Position Summary:
This position plays a major role in the support of SCOR underwriters
in the Americas through the provision of catastrophe risk analytics. The
position-holder will provide operational support to the reinsurance
underwriting of catastrophe risk for both existing and new cedants using a
variety of third party and internally-developed models and tools. Based in
Miami, Florida, the position offers the opportunity to analyze catastrophe
risk in the Caribbean and Central and South America in support of technical
pricing as well as portfolio management activities. The position is part of
the SCOR Global National Catastrophe team and has many opportunities to
contribute to wider team initiatives and special hazard research projects.
Job Responsibilities:
• Aid the Regional Catastrophe Manager, Underwriters and
Catastrophe Pricing Analysts in support of business written in the Americas,
with day-to-day pricing, accumulation and portfolio optimization.
• Understand and interrogate vendor models to develop appropriate
adjustments for pricing and accumulation to reflect internal view of risk.
• Understand and synthesize new developments from the modeling
companies and help to communicate to wider colleagues.
• Help to develop pricing/accumulation methodologies for
territories or lines with no models, or where those available are considered
unsuitable.
• Review the data received from cedants/brokers for reasonableness
and signpost data deficiencies with underwriters.
• Utilize exposure data and perform analyses in catastrophe models.
• Interpret modeling results and communicate to underwriters.
• Assist with various other projects and reports related to
national catastrophe, as needed.
Skills & Knowledge:
• Master’s degree or PhD in natural science, mathematics,
engineering or geography.
• Ability to speak Spanish.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word,
Excel, PowerPoint).
• GIS, VBA, SQL, R skills advantageous.
• Strong analytical, problem solving approach.
• Strong organizational and time management skills required;
ability to multi-task.
• Clear communicator; able to structure an argument and ability to
explain complex issues in a simple way.
• Team player; interested in sharing knowledge.
