It happens in postwar Germany. A 15 years old boy falls in love
with a much older woman. But this woman, Hanna seems to have her
secret. One day Hanna just disappears, the boy's life goes one
but he cannot forget her.
Years later, when he becomes a law student, he witnesses the trial
of the guards of concentration camps. He is shocked to find Hanna
is among those guards. It is then he discovers Hanna's deeper
secret.
The author Bernhard Schlink is a professor of law at University of
