how to overlay two different maps? Thanks a lot.# GeoSpace - 地球与空间科学

I have a rainfall map and a NDVI map of US.
Now, I want to overlay the rainfall map on the NDVI map
so that I could identify the change of the rainfall
distribution with different types of vegetation.
In other words, I want the rainfall map to be
semi-transparency so that I could see through it
to reach the NDVI map under it. Now, the problem is
that I cannot see the NDVI distribution any more
after I put the rainfall map over it. Could anyone give me
some suggestions about how do this? Thanks a

You use matlab?
If so, it's easy.
In matlab, even you draw a 2-D plot, it's actually a 3-D plot.
You played with the handle, set its z=different values. For your case,
set NDVI map with z = -10, and rainfall map with z= 0 will do it.

in ArcGIS, add a field to attribute table, then setup transparency value for
each polygon.
right-click your polygon layer-> Features-> Symbol -> Transparency-> select
a field to set up % of transparency....done

and you may try overlay your vegetation polygons
over your rainfall in ArcScene to get an
interactive 3D rainfall map.

Thank you for your suggestions.
I use matlab. So, I guess your idea actually is to display these two maps
at a different position along the vertical axis of z, just like that
shown in the attached figure(Suppose the top image is the rainfall
map, while the bottom is the NDVI map), right?

Thank you for your instructions.
I guess this is what I am looking for, but I don't use ArcGIS. I mean,
there is no ArcGIS installed on my PC. Now, I am wondering if I could
do this with any other software, such as matlab, and so on? Thanks a lot.
