我粗略看了一下，好像geography是不包括在STEM内的。那么GIS就不能申请17 month
extension?

i think you are right, i.e., gis is not considered as stem if the major
listed on your i-20 is geography or gis/cartography.

geography is too simple and sometimes naive, 所以不算.如果你在civil里就算。

地理学的技术分支GIS(mapping sciences, remote sensing & GIS) 在学术界工业界都
被认为是computer science/ information technology,应该出现在STEM里面。现在还
可以给S**********[email protected]写信要求request change.
地理的CIP是45.0701,有些学校单列Cartography 45.0702，但都不在STEM list.
我正在联系我们学校的GIS国际学生和老师写信。
下面是USCIS关于如何申请STEM变更的(行动要快，6月9日估计新的OPT就不再是Interim
而是official final了)：

感觉gis还不算一个学科,也没什么体系

好像也没有个什么code是GIS专门的
和GIS最近的也只有cartography的code
