Now then, here are some suggestions, all of which are essential reading
for the different environmental GIS courses I teach:
Peter A Burrough & Rachael A McDonnell, 1998, Principles of Geographical
Information Systems. Oxford, OUP. About US$30, paperback. An excellent
introduction with an environmental background.
Stephen Wise, 2002, GIS Basics. London, Taylor & Francis. About US$20,
paperback. Another excellent introduction, but focusing on the underlying

Um....
Most of these books are trying to introduce the principles. I think what I
need is more like a cook book, telling me how to use the functions and so on
. Because I don't do modeling or calculation under GIS, principles won't do
any good to me.
Bang Zhu, any other books to recommand?
