Hi,
My mother in law will go back to China and we want her to take an old laptop
back to use. However, we cannot prove it is an old and was bought in China
(my wife brought it to US). Is it possible to get caught for tax when my
mother in law arrives Beijing? If caught, how much percentage?

You may ignore the possibility of getting caught for a laptop.
But if you take 100 laptops with you, may god bless you.
