I've looked at article 8510..., found that USC has low rankings in several
engineering majors, how come USC can be ranked No.6 in Engineering? Could that
be error?
Anybody have clue?

I really don't think USC can go #6, no offense, it is a good school, but not
that good.

cmft
this is very normal and understandable reaction from umich, which is
a gradually declining school
umich is even not comparable to ucla, so it's behind usc now
however, it still has a good attraction to Chinese students doing
fundmental science
no offense, just fact

名校有烂人,烂校有牛人.但无论如何USC根本不能和CHICAGO相提并论.Even Big Ten 也没
有能跟CHICAGO叫板的,including UMich, UIUC.我看USC最多能和MSU比一比.地方好除外.

呵呵，您老误会了。我不是不服气这个排名，我只是很疑惑。每个专业都没进前十名，
综合起来反而排到第六，难道大家不疑惑吗？详细排名请见下面。

你知不知道多少人据了UIUC，UMICH来USC？反例我几乎没看到过
外国学生就跟不必说了

南加州大学的快速飙升和校长Sample的故事

提到加州的大学，一般想到的是伯克利等几所州立大学和加州理工学院。对南加州大学
了解不多。实际上南加州大学在美国研究型大学中按综合指标排名与耶鲁大学不相上
下，而且是近10年来地位快速飙升的一所学校。
南加州大学是美国西部最早的私立研究型大学。该校靠私人赠地而成立于1880年，当时
只有53名学生和10名教师，学校所在的洛杉矶还是一个没有马路的小镇。到目前该校已
有28000名学生，3800名教师，有18个学院。培养了20多万毕业生，包括美国国务卿、
国会议员、宇航员、演艺界名人等。校友凝聚力强，向母校捐款率高，自称“特洛伊家
族”，以“忠诚、求知、干练、勇敢、励志”为座右铭。1984年洛杉矶奥运会，南加州
大学是最大的奥运村和游泳跳水比赛场地，风光一时。
南加州大学近年来发展迅速，2000年被时代杂志评为当年度美国最佳大学，特别表彰该
校在“服务于社会”这一方面的成绩。南加州大学的教学医院是全国最大的，在校外国
留学生人数是全国最多的，传播和媒体学科世界领先。2001年在美国研究型大学9项评
估指标中有8项进入全美前25名，

我现在都怕了中文介绍有关科研的文章。好像什么东西一用中文写出来，就神乎其神，
总离不开个“吹”字，真的也能变成假的。
这篇文章里的事实部分还是准确的。但开头第一段就很别扭。我猜这一段是作者自己
的话，而后面段落基本按照实据资料的。别扭在哪里呢？逻辑矛盾。与“耶鲁不相上下”
，
已经意味着名列前茅，那么地位又如何“快速飙升”呢？

USC快速飙升是事实，不过叫板ivy和uchicago还早了点。跟ivy比research，chicago比en
gineering，uiuc比location，那当然是天下无敌了。

for sciences and some Bio majors, UCSD is sure in lead. But as for your
interest
in MCB, USC is not too distant either.

First, it is not exactly a game of adding up together. they have a methodolgy
part you can read yourself.
Second, USC is a little overrated this year, therefore causing you some
uneasiness. I personally understand you and think UMich should be adead of USC
in engineering. But USC is certainly marching into the class of UMich and
UIUC, though its reputation score still fall behind right now, which I
think will take a certain amount of time to change this fact.
But suppose USC get comparable reput

Programs soar and programs drop. The real top ones will always stay. It's
stupid to argue over one year's rankings. Actually, it's stupid to argue over
any rankings. Just go to the school you like and enjoy your studing/living
there. Remember 10 years out of school, nobody will care about where you
went. It's your own achievements that matters then.

我觉得甚至不用10年
一出校门进了公司就会发现和别人一样了
再大的公司有好学校毕业的也有差一点学校毕业的
说到底还是看个人能力

Although USC has some strong points, but I can not agree that USC are close
to Yale. Being confident and brag are different.
I am a Trojan, but I don't like to see USC being exaggerated. Just to correct
some words, and agree with the rest.
It should be she4 qu1, I remember USC was cited for "community service", not
society.
