Hi, I applied for Ph.D in Fall 04. So far I have only got two offers: one
from Univ. of Maryland at College Park, Bioengineering Program (new, 2 yr
history); another from Univ. of Rochester, Biomedical Engineering.
It is really hard for me to make a decision between them. Any suggestion is
helpful, please!

yeah, hard to choose,CP is decent, but Rochester is private,
i'll use a coin,heh

4.15都过了,这offer是不是4.15后给的呀?
看看老板的区别吧.

看地理环境你喜欢哪里吧。东北到了冬天很难过的。

But in Rochester, there is no summer and almost 6-month winter.Don't u think
it is too cold?
Maryland is on mid-coast. R is close to Canada.

both of them are fellowship. I will choose an advisor after 1st year 3 lab
rotation.

Rochester除了冬天就是夏天了。夏天也会很热，不过特别热的估计也就那么几天，那附
近湖很多，应该比较好玩，离大瀑布又近。冬天确实差不多有半年。 Maryland我只去过
一次，是7月份去的，把我热了个半死。
不过要我常年呆在rochester, 会郁闷死。

It seems to me that you prefer R. I think after finishing Ph.D in R, I will
find a job on the other states. So thinking about 5-6 yr in R, is that
acceptable for you?

我觉得两个地方差不多。因为我住的地方离R比较近，所以说得多了一些，被你误解为我
比较喜欢R了。今年冬天的雪很大，所以我特别痛恨东北这块儿。
如果你要根据地理环境选择的话，不如先和两个学校的学生会了解一下当地的情况再做决
定

Maryland is hot in summer? Maybe for one month. I lived in Dallas for almost
three years, I felt still OK.

I don't know whether you're in the US right now, but anyway, your situation is
quite similar to mine. I was admitted to U of Rochester and another university
for PhD, and I finally chose the latter one even though UR has a higher
ranking in the field of my study than the other one. The main reasons are two:
1. I like the program of the second university better than that of UR
2. The weather in Rochester did not give me a good impression when I was
invited to vist there.

Yes. I am in the US. From the rank point, Bioengineering is a new program in
UMCP. In UofR, it is BME.I am not sure the major ranking, maybe around 31.
Different majors, so I do not think they are comparable. If we have to, I do
not think the new program will be better. But I like the weather in Maryland.
Also, I am not a medical student. I want to work on medical imaging.
