请假各位faculty member：
收到一封email来自面试过的一个学校，说想要跟我谈一下，让我给他们合适的时间。
我觉得可能是一个offer。
但是我已经接受了另外一个offer了，这种情况下我如何做才比较合适？
(1) 直接回email说我已经不available了？
（2）回email说我available的时间，等他们告诉我说给我offer的时候，我再说不
available？
没有show off的意思，给offer的学校都是一般的tier。
只是自己从来没有处理过这种事情，都是一个领域的，
以后还要抬头不见低头见，而且可能有合作的机会。
所以请教一下各位，这种情况怎么处理合适。

新手提问，准备近两年内买房，到时候401k有多少都准备全拿出来。主要是想利用公司
match稍微挣一点。这样子的话是不是存roth比较好一点？谢谢

since you are not sure whether it's an offer, I would suggest that you set
up a time to talk to them first. When they extend the offer, you can tell
them that you've accepted another one.

对于unqualified early distribution，roth 401(k)中公司match和investment
earning部分的收税和普通401（k）完全一样，就是10% penalty + 当年的income tax。
所以真正的差别只取决于你自己contribution的那部分。因为2年的401（k）的个人
contribution最多也就是35000，你的tax bracket不一定会改变。如果是这样的话传统
401（k）和roth 401(k)就没有任何区别。
当然，你这种情况用roth的确不会吃亏。不过这个结论的前提是你“两年后真的全部取
出来”。如果你2年后改变主意了，比如决定把这笔钱长期投资，那就不好说了。注意
roth 401(k)是不能变回普通401（k）的，而401（k）是可以转成roth 401(k)的。

大概明白了，非常感谢。两年内应该怎么也会取出来买房了，房租实在交的太肉疼了。
。。
再补充问一下，看了账户有以下这些fund可以选，目标基本就是扣掉各种fee之后能保
本。那么怎么分配比较好呢？谢谢~

1. talk to them ASAP, so they can make other arrangement promptly.
2. be polite and appreciate their effort.
3. be frank: if they ask you where you are going (they likely won't ask),
tell them the truth. They will know anyway in future, so no point to hide
anything.

You can loan from your 401K, that's probably better than taking out.

不好意思，说漏了一点很重要的：你自己contribution的部分，roth 401k比传统401k
要少交10%的tax penalty。
现在的形势是，如果是两年的周期，没有哪个基金扣除费用能保证保本。原来传统的思
路是短期投资存money market或者bond fund，但是现在这两个如果是短期投资扣除费
用都是0甚至是负的。
而stock bond显然风险更大。不过如果你想赌一下的话，可以考虑VIIIX之类的大盘基
金。

If you have already taken an offer, why don't you just withdraw your
application now?

I took another one not long time ago.
For this one, I thought they already gave it to somebody else.
I don't know that you can still withdraw your application after onsite
interview.
I feel strange to tell them that I take an offer already before they contact
me.

It's up to you. If you haven't signed the letter, you could still talk to #2. However, if you intend to sign regardless of the potential offer from #2, then you better decline the phone conversation and let them know that you have accepted an offer from another institution.

等你正式接受offer之后，给去面试过，还没有消息的地方的系主任发个email，告诉他
们你的去向。别人会appreciate的。
