对Q8200来说, 这个速度偏慢了. 我的atom 330都不止这点速度.

CPU and memory upgrade won't help on the network speed like many people said in WHS.net forum, I upgrade it to support two iphone4 720p real time transcoding simultaneously.
What speed did you get and how did you test the speed?
I tested the speed by transfering a large file to a laptop back and forth.

basically CPU will be involved to move data around and process the network
packet. so usually with weak CPU (such as cheap NAS box with ARM CPU), jumbo
frame helps a lot. beyond some threshold when CPU is fast enough to handle
a lot of packets, CPU won't help network speed anymore indeed.

Those untweaked speed are close, I didn't do those tweakings on either client/server, since I am already very satisfied by its speed.
The other difference is robocopy vs FTP, robocopy could be slower than testing as ftp server
EX490 comes with celeron, I have upgraded to C2D first and then QuadCore, no
obvious copy/paste performance difference on those three CPUs. I bet
Celeron and 2GB memory is good enough for NAS.
I used EX490 as media center as well as NAS: movie/video transcoding and
streaming, music/photo processing etc. CPU upgrade made huge difference on
these tasks, especially watching HD movies on iphone4;
Celeron: cann't do real time 720p transcoding.
C2D E5200: can support one iphone4 real time transcoding.
Q8200s: can support at least two iphone4 real time transcoding, may be more.
And Quad core can cut offline handbrake processing time by half too.

I have more than 12 various devices connected to that server, not only PCs.
Jumbo frame may not fit.
The server works great on all scenarios I have now.
Those tweaks may help speeding up already fast network file transfer a little bit in some corner cases for me, but I am afraid side effect on others. Jumbo frame setting can be easily backfired.
Any way, the current speed is more than enough for me, I am just a little
surprised by those numbers. It'100%+ faster than copying a file from portable HD.
It's still good to know Jumbo frame tweak can get more speed, it may help for those who really need fast network throughput.

jumbo frames is automatic. if one of your device doesn't support it, the
server will lower MTU for that device. anyway it's your choice. i am just
telling you the speed is quite normal for any average gigabit network.
gigabit network is full duplex and is really designed for gigabit throughput
, unlike wireless network which is merely half duplex.

Yeah, even with 2GHz celeron, HP mediasmart ex series should give you around
65MB/sec.

Ex490 costs about $360 with 2*1TB.
Got that Q8200s deal on ebay at about $110
The 65w low voltage version of Quad core is rare and expensive; Q9550s is the best
CPU can fit HPEX,but it's over $300 on ebay.
Depends what you need, if you only want NAS, the Celeron and 2GB are good
enough.
But if you are going to get the full potential of that little size server, CPU and memory upgrade are well worth the money.
