这些软件一般都是支持4核的benchmark结果，所以huge difference.
对单核/双核的大多数应用两者应该差不多。前者有HT和两倍的L3 Cache,后者主频略高。

check notebookcheck for more general ratings
for user experience, there is no difference for daily use..

感觉这个分差是有实际意义的。
比如i7 640lm大约2200分， i5 560m大约2500分，二者用true image
做压缩备份和恢复的速度差别非常明显。

daily usage的话再差点儿也未见得感觉出差距
但楼主的意思,应该是想买高配cpu来跑重活
这个i7得分已经比老2.8g的i7 860还高了
我的经验,至少cpu-intense的应用,比如转照片视频之类
cpubenchmark的得分跟实际用时还是相当相关的.

还要看看 Memory 速度. 公司去年配两台机器,
1. i5 desktop, DDR3 1333
2. Quad cores desktop, DDR3 1067. CPU 打分快~50%.
在大数据处理, 多任务时, i5比较给力, 大约快30%.

我也知道HP质量不太好，主要是便宜。我上个hp的台式机主板坏了，用了7年。
