Form a top 20 university:

Your papers certainly were on par with our interviewed pool. There were two
issues that put you a bit lower though - one in your control, the other out
of your control.
Out of your control: It was felt that the work was very similar to what's
already going on here and the committee was looking to diversify the ****
ology research.
In your control: As faculty, we are under alot of pressure from a granting
standpoint from CWRU administration. We needed to see some evidence that the
applicant had successful obtained funding (ie. could write and compete for
funding). Every applicant we interviewed had a K01, K99 or K22 award.
Best of luck as you move toward a faculty appointment and starting your own
lab. *******'s a good friend - we tried to recruit him here a few years ago,
but he chose to go to Hopkins.

8/02 express mail out.
08/03 recieved
08/09 got receipt
08/13 called to expedite
08/14 got emai, rejected
08/22 called again to expedite, got rejected by rep.
08/23 initial review goes to card production
08/27 EAD recieved
don't worry, just call them if you want to expedite, the worst is to get
rejected.
hope everyone gets card early.

前阵子搞了个火柴盒大小的router一直没用。
今天把它跟E3000摆一起。用android那个wifi强度测试的软件在屋子各处转了一圈，发
现基本上一样。最多差1-2dbm

呵呵那个信号受限于你的手机还有其他router的干扰
最好用笔记本测试信号强度
不过e3000信号是不强

这封信好奇怪。从信里看你没有去他们那里onsite过，通常这种情况form rejection就
完了。居然花了那么多的口水给你讲为何没把你叫去interview，通常就是拒已经
interview过的也不这么仔细。感觉很怕得罪你/你老板/你朋友/你学校似的。
另外这个人的英语。。。

Congratuations!
Did you receive email or paper receipt on 8/9? Did you mail your application
to a lockbox address and then they forwarded it to the appropriate service
center? Thanks!

Yes,
I got reciept and email for recieving the case.
I just mal to the acceptance center by FEDEX, they assigned my case to NSC.

这个研究方向的diversity真的没法control。如果做的跟某人相似度大点，就说没有
很好的diversity，如果做的跟任何人没有大的overlap, 然后一堆人在onsite的时候反
复问能跟谁合作。
所以大概听听就算了，未必是真实理由。回复致谢一下，move on

又来八一下。为啥说你是特殊对待？下面是几种常见的拒信。
1，比较nice：你虽然很强，但其他的candidates也很强。我收到的大部分是这种。
2，不太nice：我们今年的candidates都很强（没说你）。这我也收到过。
3，rude：我们今年的candidates都很强，unfortunately你不在此列。我没收到过，是
见Chronicle上有人说收到过。

我专门问了两个前十医学院的SC chair，都说我们不会把K99作为关键考量，因为我们
不想别人为我们做决定。

K99肯定是一个考虑因素但不是关键因素，近年来拿到K99的那些人大部分去了好的学校
而不是top学校。

其实我发现最近一两年，大部分拿到K99 的人都不算是学术界上的明星。
很多人做的研究其实就是中庸程度，属于比较安全的那种。
我感觉要么就是那些明星级的根本就懒得花时间去申请这个，要么就是study section
倾向于资助那些中等资历的人。

K99 不是给明星准备的，K99是给要再训练1一2年的人。

你这样说是偷换概念，很多job market上popular的人不是不想申请K99，是他们已经过
了可以申请的时限。K99规定拿到的人必须要在原来实验室再待一到两年，而不是那些
拿到的人需要再训练一到两年。

你说的对。很多都有postdoc fellowship，然后几年都在憋大文章，出来就该直接找工
作了。把大文章的idea去申K99不如直接就去申R01或者DP2。

都前十的学校了，根本就不缺钱，SC 考虑的是你将来能不能象他们一样当院士，拿大
奖。

你如果看一看K99的评审标准就不会这样说了。申请人是需要JUSTIFY需要1-2年额外训
练的。有的申请没有拿到的理由就是申请人已经不需要额外训练了。

谢谢你的祝福，不是我这么想，是NIH这么想。NIH的人在给要申请的人介绍的时候也这
么说。申请到的人有理由不高兴吗？明星也就那么几个，大部分拿不到的不是
OVERQUALIFY。申请者也得说服评审你值得投资再训练一两年不是。
