I called a technician to wire the ethernet line cat6a for me. He said he
only does cat6e or cat6. May I ask which is better, cat6, cat6a or cat6e?

don't hire this guy, there is no cat6e cable...when ppl say cat6e, usually
they meant cat6a.

多谢两位的帮助。
我没有听错。我说要cat7, 他说no cat7,问我要cat5 还是cat6, 我说cat6a, 他说，
“There is no cat6a, only cat6e, which is the best ethernet cable". 我说要
cat6e. 约在这周末装，他说会帮我连ethernet cable, 再加个patch panel.

哇，你这么一说，我得考虑cancel appointment了。这人以前是at&t technician, 后
来自己出来干了。angies list和yelp上review 都很好。
请问你觉得连那种ethernet cable好呢？我找找做home theatre的人问问。

just there is no such thing as cat6e cable. it's ok to call it cat6e, but if
he says there is no cat6a then he's idiot.
however it doesn't matter, as long as he do good job on routing cable.

zip tie, needs more testing 。我房子不大，一层楼的，1800呎，在湾区。请问是
不是最好还是找能做cat6a的contractor, 还是cat6 or cat6e is good enough for
the next 10years？我周日约的technician他网上所有的review都是电话线连接和cat6

cat6 and cat6a are cable standards, cat6e is just marketing gimmick.
however cat5e is a cable standard. that is why this shit is so confusing.

person. He told me it would be much more expensive to install cat6a than the
ordinary cat6.

if cost is about the same, go for cat6a. otherwise cat6 is enough even for
short distance 10G copper(<=50meter). you will only need cat6a if you need
10G to reach 100meter.

非常感谢。我算了下，这房子才1800 sq ft, 室内最长距离也才34m, 是否cat6也够了
，不需cat6a？
我又called了comcast，因为上次comcast technician说the dish network cable
inside the current house cannot run comcast, and I need to hire someone else
to rewire the cable line. But I found out the house has the RG6 cable,
which should work for either satellite or cable. The comcast technician who
came last Sunday was not knowledgeable.
Comcast technician would come again the coming Sat. Do I need to have the
activated cable outlet in the same place where the patch box is? When one
cable outlet was activated, do all the cable outlets get activated? (the
technician who came last Sunday said no, but the comcast person who picked
up my phone said yes.)
Really appreciate all your kind help.

RG6和RG11还是有点点差别, 不过你总共就100尺的话, 在700MHz上也就差1dB.应该不是
什么大问题.

其实５e就够了，比５e贵不了多少的６大多跟５e性能相近，花多点钱买点心里舒服而
已。但是这道理跟外行人说，人都跟你急，所以干脆上６，省得替人省钱人家还不舒服
。

家庭用确实没多大差别, 6a和5e的差别主要不在信号本身的衰减上, 而是在抗干扰能力
上(crosstalk/alien crosstalk). 家里没什么干扰, 性能体现不出来.
不过另一方面说, 5e的线质量参差不齐, 6a还是要好不少.

patch panel和router/network switch根本解决的不是一个问题啊。没有patch panel
的话，所有的线都得用crimper terminate到RJ45plug上，然后才能连到switch上。个
人建议用patch panel，会需要多些patch cables，但是多不了几个钱。
