Not too much experience with LinkedIn. Is it really useful? Does anyone actually get
interviews from LinkedIn? Better than monsters.com and careerbuilder?
A lot of recruiter or companies are using LinkedIn to look for candidates?
Please share your practical experience. Thanks a lot.

yes， very useful
我觉得有用的：
make your profile public
add keyword in skills
join professional groups related to your major
update profile often
use more specific word, e g: "server side software engineer- J2EE" instead
of "software engineer" as job title
也可以直接联系job poster

So it means recruiters and companies do use them to look for candidates? Did
you get any phone calls or interviews from LinkedIn?
How about paying to become a premium membership at LinkedIn? Is that helpful?
I used monster and careerbuilder, and now are trying to use LinkedIn.

absolutely.
I am not even actively seeking for a job. I just updated my linkedin profile
the other day to keep it up-to-date during a weekend. I was contacted by two
recruiters the next Monday.
I used monster before when I was looking for a job. I got tones of phone
calls
too.

Also it will become more useful if you have more connections. With like 100
connections, you'll be able to contact most recruiters in your field
directly (you'll find that they are most likely your 2nd or 3rd degree
contacts and you are able to send messages to them). Don't be afraid to make
connections with recruiters. For them, the more candidates, the better.
They invest heavily in building up their candidate portfolio.
It is also helpful to follow companies you are interested in joining. Their
new job postings will show on your wall (as well as some news, but that is
probably not your focus for now).
When searching for job listings for a specific company at the company page,
now it shows who in your connections can refer you to the job poster.
我这次找工作的经历，西岸的IT大公司大都用LinkedIn(包括EE和CS)做连续的
recruiting. 东岸的一些financial firm还在用Monster或者Dice。那些一般就是你
upload新resume的第二天，会给你打电话，之后他们似乎就不怎么keep track了。

我在湾区，平均大概两天收到一封recruiter 的in-mail
如果update profile，第二天一般能收到2封 in-mail. 所以我觉得update会有所帮助
